Kamikatsu Zero Waste Center
Kamikatsu in central Tokushima has an innovative approach to waste management. There are no garbage collection services in the town. Instead, residents are responsible for composting their food scraps and bringing recyclable materials to the Zero Waste Center. Seventeen years after the town issued a Zero Waste Declaration, Kamikatsu’s recycling rate has surpassed 80%. Learn more about the town’s initiatives by taking a tour of the Zero Waste Center (reservations required). Visitors may also stay in one of the four guest rooms at HOTEL WHY on the grounds of the Waste Center to experience zero-waste practices in daily life.
