Tokushima Tokushima Prefecture Awa Jurobe Yashiki

Tokushima is home to a "Ningyo Joruri" (Puppet Theater). Many puppet theaters and doll makers work in the area and proudly continue the tradition of handmade puppets and goods. There is an outdoor stage on the premesis of the shrine, and about 80 puppet players hold shows here. The former residence of Bando Jyurobei, who worked as an indigo merchant and village head during feudal Japan, is located here as well. This location was developed as a base facility of Awa Ningyo Joruri, and holds regular shows twice a day (11:00 and 2:00 during the regular season, and 10:00, 11:30, 1:30, and 3:00 during Obon Season). The facility also houses exhibition rooms, Japanese gardens, and shops selling the traditional indigo dye products.
