This castle stands nearly at the top of Mt. Gagyuzan. The castle is considered impregnable from attacks by sea, and is the only surviving mountain castle in Japan. From autumn to early spring, the castle looks like it is floating in a sea of clouds, and offers breathtaking scenery. You can visit this "Castle in the Sky" by taking a shuttle bus (for a small fee) from the fifth station to the eighth station. From the eighth station, visitors must walk up the mountain road for about twenty minutes. Make sure to bring comfortable shoes when visiting Bitchu Matsuyama Castle!
