Ehime Niihama Taiko Festival

This festival is held in Niihama City, Ehima Prefecture in appreciation of the autumn harvest. Visitors can see 50 floats cars called Taikodai decorated with gold thread as they parade through Niihama City during the three days from October 16th to October 18th each year. Taikodai are 5.5 meters high, and 12 meters long and weigh about 3 tons. The floats are supported by around 150 men. The highlight of the festival is to see "Kakikurabe" which competes for the the height and beauty of the Taikodai.
