This theatre is the oldest theater in existence in Japan, and was built in 1835. It is an academically valuable cultural asset that showcases the style of the Edo Period. The building and the tile roof, as well as the hanamichi (the long stage extension), the "sajiki-seki" (elevated wooded seats on both sides of the auditoriom for special guests), mawaribuwai (rotating stage), trap doors (seri), are all examples of the time period. It took four years to restore the theatre to it's present location and it was completed in 1972. Every year the "Shikoku Konpira Kabuki Daishibai" is held, and Kabuki fans from all over the country visit it in the spring.
