Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome (Hiroshima Peace Memorial)

This building was originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall. On August 6th, 1945, the world's first atomic bomb wreaked havoc on the city. As the pressure from the blast came from above, miraculously only part of this structure was destroyed. What remains of the structure has become a symbolic figure in Hiroshima City: the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome. The domed steel frame was named "A-Bomb Dome," and was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1996. People from all over the world visit this location to pray for the abolition of nuclear weapons and world peace.
